13/04/2011 Minutes of the AGM held at the Friends’ Meeting House on 13th April at 7.45 p.m.
There were 31 members present and apologies were received from Chris Phillips.
MINUTES OF THE AGM 2010
These were accepted as a true record, proposed by David Maslin and seconded by Arthur Stockill. There were no matters arising.
PRESIDENT’S REPORT
David Jarvis said we had had a good season with excellent speakers. The membership was 48 with an average attendance of 32 – the bad weather over Christmas didn’t help. He thanked all the officers and the committee, especially John Turner “the hardest working member in the Club”
SECRETARY’S REPORT
Robert Child stated that the season had run very well with no problems.
TREASURER’S REPORT
Angela Devitt told the meeting that the Club had made a profit of just over £121, with membership just slightly down. Subscriptions are to be left as they are, with an eye on a possible rent increase next year. She said that takings from refreshments didn’t cover the cost of the kitchen rent and that maybe the new committee should consider increasing the tea prices. The Treasurer’s report was accepted unanimously, proposed Steve Jolly, seconded by Val Child.
COMPETITION SECRETARY’S REPORT
John Turner reported that print entries for monthly competitions were down 40%. Fifteen different members entered at least one of the monthly competitions in the prints section as opposed to 29 in the digital section. In the Annuals, digital entries were roughly the same, but again there was a marked decrease in the prints. In the Inter-Club battles, we narrowly beat York and also beat Focus. In the three-way battle, we came second to Kirkbymoorside.
After a vote, the following subjects were selected for next season’s monthly competitions : Open, Patterns, Book-titles, Going in Close and Unusual Angles.
ELECTION OF OFFICERS
The following were unanimously elected for 2011/12
President – David Jarvis
Vice-President – John Osborne
Treasurer – Angela Devitt
Secretary – Robert Child
Competition Secretary – John Turner
Syllabus Secretary – Alan Curtis

PROPOSITIONS
1. The Committee proposed that subscriptions remain the same for next season – this was carried unanimously.
2. Ralph Witty proposed a two tier competition system, but received no seconder
3. Ralph Witty proposed that the Club should have more practical nights. This was defeated by 16 votes to 3.
2011/12 PROGRAMME
The Syllabus Secretary still had some gaps in the forthcoming programme and was open to suggestions. Meetings will commence on 5th October with the programme to be e-mailed to members by early August. The YPU exhibition begins at Doncaster on 14th May.
ANY OTHER BUSINESS
Albert Devitt wondered if we should continue with teas. Generally it was wished to continue for the social aspect and it is hoped to get committee members to organise the tea roster next season.
The meeting closed at 8.27 p.m.

We had another very well attended evening, i think someone counted 43 people were present. It is becoming difficult to squeeze everyone comfortably into the room. Because of this it was decided after the meeting to approach the warden with a view to move back to the big room. It will have bookings some nights but whenever it is free we will meet there. This has been possible due to the many new members that have joined us this year. Fingers crossed we may be in the big room next week for Donald Neasham's show "Its a Monochrome World". I'm looking forward to seeing you there.
